WHAT IS EXACTLY A 2D, 3D AND 4D ULTRASOUND?
Ultrasound is an imaging technique widely used in the field of medicine that allows us to take a look at the organs within the body, most commonly used with pregnant women. They are high frequency sound waves that travel from the probe through the gel in the body and a computer then uses those waves to create an image of what is inside.
A 2D ultrasound is a conventional prenatal ultrasound that shows two-dimensional images. Although this type of image can be very informative for professionals who use it, for the average person, the image may not look like the baby at all.
Advances in technology have led to 3D and 4D ultrasound that are of higher quality, since they show much clearer images of the baby in the womb. 3D ultrasound is shown in three dimensions, while 4D is like a 3D but live! This means that the baby can be seen moving in real time. 3D and 4D can show baby activities that are not possible to see with 2D. The baby can be seen smiling, crying, yawning and you can see his little nose in great detail with the 4D.
Recommendation – For a clearer picture in 3D or 4D, it is recommended to make an appointment between week 26 and 32 of pregnancy. A 3D or 4D ultrasound is the best way to see.
